Twixmas: A Therapist's Perspective on the Quiet Time Between Christmas and New Year

Ah, Twixmas—that peaceful yet peculiar interlude between the festivities of Christmas and thoughts of the coming New Year. For many, it’s a time to relax, reflect, or simply recharge before diving into the new year. But have you ever wondered what therapists are up to during this calmer period?

For me as a therapist, Twixmas is a golden opportunity to focus on tasks that often take a backseat during the busy year. Sometimes it's getting stuck into the tax return, but I'm ahead of myself with that. So this year, I’m using the time to put the finishing touches on an exciting project—a collaborative course that my daughter invited me to run with her. It starts on February 5th at Charlton House, Shepton Mallet, Somerset. It’s a labor of love that combines our expertise and aims to create something truly transformative for participants.

Reflecting on the Year Gone By

First and foremost, Twixmas is a time for reflection. As therapists, we often encourage our clients to take stock of their year, acknowledging their growth and identifying areas they’d like to improve. This period gives us the chance to practice what we preach. For me, that means reviewing the highlights and challenges of the year in my practice, noting what worked well and what could be refined. Last year was about studying and completing a Health Coaching course to expand my knowledge and extend what I can offer my clients.

This year promises to be super busy, I'll continue to work with my therapy clients, and focus my personal development efforts on my art work, Lynn Brookes Art, this is the other strand of my work that helps to keep life in balance.

Creativity and Collaboration

This year, my Twixmas focus is the course my daughter and I are co-creating. It’s a unique blend of our skills—her perspective brings fresh ideas and new learning, while my experience provides a steady foundation. Together, we’re designing a program that will empower individuals to foster deeper connections and personal growth. The quiet of Twixmas is the perfect environment for brainstorming, refining content, and ensuring that every detail aligns with our vision. The focus of our 10 week course, will be on weightloss with a small 'w', because we are hoping that it will trigger much wider changes for our group members.

What our course isn't:

  • About weighing yourself

  • Obsessing about the scales

  • Or buying wonder products (they are like Father Christmas - they don't exist!)

What is it about?:

  • Gaining a deeper understanding of yourself

  • Work on what you want for yourself

  • Having a small group experience to explore and learn from each other

  • Coupled with the power of a hypnotherapy session to help you achieve your personal aims and objectives.

  • Hopefully some fun too

  • and more - but it's quite hard to define

Work with Rest

Boxing Day Races - Wincanton

Of course, Twixmas isn’t all about work. Therapists, like everyone else, need downtime to recharge. After all, the work we do can be emotionally demanding, and a rested mind is essential for offering our best to clients. For me, this means cozy evenings with a good book, or box set, walks in nature, and cherishing moments with family—especially those moments that spark creativity and deepen connections. Boxing Day races was a lovely fun family day out. One of my grandsons had some great beginners luck picking several winners, coming home with £130 tucked into his wallet! I did not, oh well never mind.

Preparing for the Year Ahead

As Twixmas winds down, it’s natural to start looking ahead. February’s course is just one part of what promises to be a busy and fulfilling year. This period is perfect for setting intentions, organizing schedules, and ensuring that the year begins on a thoughtful and productive note.

An Invitation to You

If you find yourself in the calm of Twixmas, I encourage you to reflect on your own year and consider what you’d like to carry forward. And, if you’re intrigued by the idea of our mother-daughter course, keep an eye out for updates. We’re pouring our hearts into it and can’t wait to share it with you.

So, here’s to Twixmas—a time to breathe, dream, and prepare for the adventures ahead. Whether you’re a therapist, a client, or simply someone navigating life, may this period bring you the peace and inspiration you need to step boldly into the new year.

Wishing you all Health and Happiness.
